Tribute to James L. Adams, Jr.

James Landis “Jimmy” Adams, Jr. 82, of Marianna, FL died Monday, January 13, 2025. 

Jimmy was born January 5, 1943 to the late Landis and Annette Adams. Jimmy was a proud graduate of Blountstown High School class of 1961 and then went on to attend Massey Technical Institute in Jacksonville, FL. He met and married Sheila Ann Harrell on July 5, 1964 in a hot Missionary Baptist Church. They were married for 60 years before his passing. 

He started his professional career as a radio technician for the Florida Forestry Service and then for the Florida Game & Fresh Water Fish Commission. In 1973 he continued his radio career by opening his own business called Adams Communications in Marianna and Panama City, FL. In 1998 he became the owner/manager of WTYS radio station in Marianna, FL. He loved nothing more than playing True Southern Gospel on the radio. Jimmy obtained his amateur radio license at the age of 12 and had been active in ham radio since then . He supported radio as a hobby, in emergency situations and in the advancement of the amateur radio community. He was also a lifetime member of the Chipola Amateur Radio Club.

Jimmy was a member of Grace Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and served in any area or capacity he was needed. His commitment to his faith was profound and lived his life with a steadfast devotion to Christ. Jimmy served not only his Lord and Savior faithfully, but also his family, church and friends.  

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Harrell Adams; children, Jeannie Johnson and husband, Matthew, Landis Adams and wife, Suzanne; grandchildren, Mary Sue Woodruff and husband, Joe, Sara Kate Chaffer and husband, Joel, Caroline Dean and husband, Joshua, Luke Johnson and Harper Johnson; great-grandchildren, Stella, Hattie Mae, Magnolia, Simon, Thomas; brother, Powell Adams and wife, Amy; sisters-in-laws, Jimmie Lundgren, Susan Attwood; brothers-in-law, Ted Harrell, wife, Suzanne, G. W. Harrell and wife, Hope, Rick Harrell and wife, Linda Lee; many nieces, nephews, friends and family who loved him dearly.  

Funeral service will be 2 PM Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Grace Methodist Church with Bro. Jim Harbert officiating. Burial will follow in Nettle Ridge Cemetery, 19159 SR-69 Blountstown, FL
